A word from Pastor Tom:

Men, we have a duty to fulfill as men when we are dads and husbands. We have certain responsibilities as 'heads of the house' that fall on our shoulders. The problem is, there is no class on 'How to be a Head of Family'.  We are expected however, to some how measure up.

Well, consider this HEAD OF FAMILY 101 class, and class is now in session.

The best source I know on how to behave, is God's Word, the Bible. There is an outline of how we should be as husbands and as heads of our homes in that bible of God's.

Here it is:
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Ephesus, in the book of the Bible we call Ephesians, writes in chapter 5 verse 25, that we are to love our wives as Christ loved His church.

Christ loved his church by washing His disciple's feet. He loved His church by healing the sick. He loved His church by raising the dead. He loved His church by making blind people see. Therefore, we are to love our wives in the same way. We are to serve them. Oh yea, I said we are TO SERVE THEM! Wash their feet as Christ did by washing their car, by washing the dishes, by cleaning the house, by starting the laundry, even when you are tired. This says 'I Love You' louder than any card or bouquet of flowers, or jewelry or anything else can say it. This is God's instruction. Jesus fixed broken things. He healed the sick. He restored sight to the blind. Everywhere He went, He fixed things.

How about us then, doing like wise. Instead of blowing up at our wives, how about we fix things? How about building up rather than tearing down? How about doing what our wives need rather than what we want. Yea, put them first and you second. That says 'I LOVE YOU' very loudly.

We don't do it though. We don't know how. We don't even know we are supposed to be like that. How then, can we do what we don't know to do? We can't! There is no way, without God in your life and reading His Bible to see how we are supposed to be.

I didn't do it for years. I couldn't do it. I didn't want to do it. I had no respect for my wife. It was all about me. Does this sound familiar? If it does you need to make drastic changes, and you need to make them today.

It is not the way of the world to be like Christ, but let me tell you this. You will go a lot farther in your relationships, if you treat people like Christ would treat them. It is really that simple. Love you wife as Christ loved His church. If you do, she will want to give herself to you. She will want you to take some time off to watch your team play. She will want you to take a day to fish or golf. You already know what happens now. She blows up if you want to do these things. Why? Because you have been blowing it for weeks and months and maybe years with her. Now you want more? Forget it!
