Pastor Tom & His Family

I was born in San Diego, CA in 1955. I grew up attending Pastor Tim F. La Hay's church and received the gospel of Jesus Christ early in life. I majored in music in college but didn't get my degree.

Meanwhile,  in my teen years, I thought I could go on without God. I fell into sin deeply. I had a life long issue with rage already. Then,  without God, I got into sexual sins, cheating customers, lying on taxes and on and on.

Things escalated until God had to rescue me. I met a minister from The People's Church. He shared Jesus' parable of the farmer sowing seeds (Matthew chapter 13). They used to throw the seeds from a bag when they planted. In the parable, or word picture, some of the seeds fell on the walkway and got eaten immediately by the birds. Some of the seeds fell among the thorns and when the thorns grew up, they got choked out. But most of the seeds fell on fertile soil and grew to produce fruit. I knew at once that I was one of the seeds in the thorns. I received Christ early in life, but then, Satan choked out my Christian way of life. As I heard those words I broke down and cried. I gave my life back to God.  I walked in His ways for about ten years thereafter.

But, I know now, that I was just going through the motions. I held back parts of my heart and didn't submit to God's will fully. My marriage began to fall apart. I was still filled with rage almost daily. Finally, my wife and I split up. It was a horrible divorce. We shared a bad relationship that escalated in the end. Through it all God was able to show me where I was wrong.

I learned that massive doses of sin and bad visual input, (i.e. porn movies) can actually warp your thinking. How you process reality is altered so much  that your decisions are faulty. God was working on me and for me during the whole ordeal. During that trial, God put me in the company of Godly people. With their influence, I gave my life back to God again. I had visited Northside Christian Church several years ago and decided to go back again. I soon found myself in the choir. Within a short time, I tried the Wednesday morning men's group. I got involved in  the praise and worship and eventually became the worship leader. Then I became a small group leader at one of the table groups for the men.

God also led me to a great Christian woman who is now my wife. This time, I am surrounded by Christians everyday. I know this has made the difference, along with truly giving it ALL to God.  If you are not in a small group, join one. If you don't go to church, start going. But don't just go to go. Get involved. Volunteer for things. There are many service needs and opportunities in every church. This will help you stay plugged in to God.

Now, I am involved at the Fresno Rescue Mission as well. I have preached there as well as for my men's group. Recently, one of my nieces asked me to perform her wedding ceremony. This was a shock and a big honor to me. My wife contacted a church in Chicago, filled out a lot of forms and based on my commitment to God, my college classes taken and life's experiences, they ordained me. That allowed me to start this ministry.

I'm honored that you took the time to read my testimony. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, I am finally where God has always wanted me to be. Man oh man does it feel good too. God has removed the anger and I left all the other garbage in my life at Calvary's Cross.

Dear God, I know I have not been the person You want me to be. I am tired of doing it my way. As of now, I accept Your free gift of eternal life with you in heaven. I know that no matter how good I try to be, I always mess up. I know that without You, I would go to hell when I die.

Come into my heart right now. I am Yours from this time forward. Forgive me of all of my sins and make me acceptable in Your sight. I know you are the creator of heaven and earth, and there is now other god besides You.

Thank you for loving me, for saving me from eternal death, and for hearing this prayer.
